Most hive roofs do the bare minimum. This one does quite a bit more.

The steep pitch of the gabled design sheds rain quickly and efficiently, so water doesn't pool or work its way into your hive. But the real advantage is what happens on the inside. The extra height between the hive body and the roof creates a larger air space, giving warm, humid air room to rise and escape. Paired with a screened bottom board, this kind of passive airflow can make a meaningful difference in hive health, especially during hot summers or damp shoulder seasons.

Better ventilation means less moisture buildup, which means healthier bees. And as a bonus, improved airflow is one of the simplest tools for swarm prevention and can contribute to stronger honey yields over the course of a season.

Built from premium pine with a comb cut shingle design along the roofline, this roof looks as good as it performs. Whether you're setting up a backyard apiary or a larger operation, it gives your hives a clean, classic look that stands out in any setting.

Choosing Your Wood:

Pine is a classic choice for beehive construction - lightweight, easy to work with, and takes paint or stain well if you want to customize the look of your apiary down the road.

Fir is a denser, harder wood that offers slightly better natural weather resistance and a tighter grain. A great option if your hives are fully exposed to the elements. Also more prone to knots.

Both are excellent choices and will serve your bees well for many seasons.

Either choice will need to be sealed (laquered, painted, etc) to keep it nice through the years.

A hive that looks great and breathes well is a hive that thrives. This roof delivers both.
